3. Sports Ministry asks WFI to respond to allegations of sexual harassment made by wrestlers within 72 hours
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been asked to explain itself and provide a response to the allegations made within the next 72 hours after the Sports Ministry became aware of the protest organised by wrestlers in Delhi during which female wrestlers made serious accusations of sexual harassment against the president and coaches of the federation. According to the Ministry’s letter with WFI, “the Ministry has taken a very serious view of the situation since the matter refers to the well-being of athletes.” |

4. Supreme Court to consider Google’s request for a stay of the $1,337 billion fine from CCI
In a challenge filed by Google against a Competition Commission of India (CCI) judgement imposing a 1,337-crore penalty on it for alleged anti-competitive activities in connection to Android mobile devices, the Supreme Court decided to review the merits of issuing a stay on Thursday. On Wednesday at 3:45 pm, the case was heard by a Bench chaired by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. With only 30 minutes remaining in the hearing, the Bench informed the attorneys that the hearing will start the morning on January 19. |

5. New Zealand’s PM Jacinda Ardern to resign and schedule elections for October

6. 14 people die in a helicopter crash near Kiev, including Ukraine’s interior minister
A helicopter crash outside of Kyiv on Wednesday claimed the lives of 14 people, including the interior minister of Ukraine and a young child.The three helicopter crew members and the other six passengers were all killed. When the French-built Super Puma helicopter crashed in a residential neighbourhood in the suburb of Brovary on the eastern outskirts of the capital, one youngster died on the scene and was among the 25 injured.
