Tokyo: A free, open, and rule-based Indo-Pacific area will be ensured by the bilateral special strategic and global cooperation between the two countries, according to defence minister Rajnath Singh, who met with his Japanese counterpart Yasukazu Hamada on Thursday in Tokyo.
Singh emphasised that the increasing complexity of the bilateral defence exercises between Japan and India is evidence of the two nations’ strengthening defence cooperation.
The ministers pledged to continue bilateral and multilateral exercises like “Malabar,” “JIMEX,” and “Dharma Guardian.” They applauded the Reciprocal Provision of Supply and Services Agreement being operative during Exercise Milan in March of this year.

They both agreed that the early completion of the first fighter exercise would open the door for considerably greater collaboration and interoperability between the two countries’ air forces.
Singh’s invitation to Japanese businesses to participate in India’s defence corridors
Singh emphasised the need to broaden the breadth of collaboration in the area of technology cooperation and defence equipment. He extended an invitation to Japanese businesses to participate in India’s defence corridors, where the Indian government has established favourable conditions for the expansion of the defence industry.

At the “2+2” foreign and defence ministerial dialogue in Japan, Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will join their Japanese counterparts.
More than five months have passed since the annual India-Japan summit, which was attended by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
