Top 5 forthcoming CNG cars in 2023

Toyota Hyryder CNG

With its new Hyryder compact SUV, Toyota has already confirmed the availability of the CNG option, and reservations have already started. The 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine from Maruti that is also used in the XL6 and is still only available with a manual transmission will be offered in mid-spec G and S trims.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine with strong-hybrid technology is the other available powertrain for the Hyryder SUV, and it already makes big promises with a stated fuel economy of close to 28kmpl.

The mild-hybrid manual S and G trims of Toyota’s compact SUV are priced at Rs 12.28 lakh and Rs 14.34 lakh, respectively, and range in price from Rs 10.48 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh. We anticipate that the same petrol-manual variants will cost Rs 95,000 more than the CNG ones.

Tata Altroz CNG

Following a successful launch in the CNG market in 2022, Tata will be motivated to increase its CNG selection. With its 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine on Tiago and Tigor, which generates 73 PS and 95 Nm, it already offers the CNG option (in CNG mode). The Altroz’s petrol versions also come with the same engine, and the premium hatchback may soon offer a CNG option as well. It is also rumoured to have the same horsepower numbers and be restricted to a five-speed manual transmission.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine and turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine (110PS and 140Nm) are the Altroz’s additional powertrain choices (making 90PS and 200Nm).

Tata Punch CNG

The Nexon is now the brand’s best-selling model, followed by the Punch micro-SUV. The Punch is a possibility for CNG because it shares a 1.2-litre petrol engine with the Tiago and Tigor, which now provide it with the option. It is anticipated to only be paired with the five-speed manual shifter and to have the same tune for 73PS and 95Nm of torque (in CNG mode).

The Punch CNG could cost Rs 90,000 more than the tiny SUV’s standard fuel models.

Hyundai i20 CNG

Given that Maruti and Toyota have previously offered CNG alternatives on their premium hatchbacks, the Baleno and Glanza, Hyundai may also choose for this fuel type for a premium offering. The Grand i10 Nios CNG’s 1.2-litre engine, which generates 68PS and 95Nm, is anticipated to power the i20 CNG as well (in CNG mode).

Maruti Brezza CNG

A CNG kit was recently discovered in the Brezza, Maruti’s subcompact SUV. We assumed it might be released in the first half of 2023 because it appeared to be at some sort of dealer yard. It would introduce a CNG option for the first time in a Maruti SUV.

The Brezza’s 1.5-litre petrol engine is the same one found in the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs, two vehicles that already give customers the option of a CNG kit. It’s likely to be restricted to the same-tuned five-speed manual transmission alone.
