Toyota Fortuner vs. Mahindra Scorpio N: Two substantial, feature-rich, and potent SUVs are currently available in the Indian market- the Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Scorpio N. Although they approach it differently and operate at various price points, they appeal to the same customer.
Both of these SUVs are available with manual and automatic transmissions and a selection of gasoline and diesel engines. Both are anticipated to travel a significant number of kilometres between fill-ups due to their high mileage. Therefore, we put our real-world efficiency tests on the top-spec Fortuner Legender and Scorpio N diesel automatic 4X2 models.
Look at how thirsty these SUVs are in reality:
Specifications | Fortuner Diesel AT | Scorpio N Diesel AT |
Engine | 2.8-litre | 2.2-litre |
Power | 203PS | 175PS |
Torque | 500Nm | 400Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed AT | 6-speed AT |
Drivetrain | Rear-wheel | Rear-wheel |
Tested Fuel Efficiency City | 10.52kmpl | 12.37kmpl |
Tested Fuel Efficiency Highway | 15.26kmpl | 16.23kmpl |
It should come as no surprise that the SUV with the more powerful engine and better performance used more gas both in city and on the highway. In the city, the Scorpio N offers an additional 2 kmpl, but only an additional 1 kmpl on the highway.
One will undoubtedly encounter a variety of driving conditions on the highway and in cities. These cars are likely to behave as follows in such situations:
Model | City:Highway (50:50) | City:Highway (25:75) | City:Highway (75:25) |
Scorpio N Diesel AT | 14.03kmpl | 15.05kmpl | 13.15kmpl |
Fortuner Diesel AT | 12.45kmpl | 13.72kmpl | 11.41kmpl |
When driving equally in the city and on the highway, your Scorpio N can deliver up to 14 kph, compared to the Fortuner’s 12.45 kph. With the Scorpio N, you can get up to 1.3 kmpl more fuel efficiency on the highways than you would with the Fortuner. In typical city driving, the Mahindra SUV gets 13.15 kmpl while the Fortuner only gets 11.41 kmpl under the same circumstances.
Cost-wise, the Fortuner is Rs 8.69 lakh more expensive than the Scorpio N. The Mahindra SUV outperforms the Toyota SUV in terms of fuel economy despite receiving a larger, more potent engine.
