Toyota has recently unveiled a Hilux Pick-up truck in United kingdom that runs with hydrogen. The automaker took more than a year in manufacturing this vehicle, the company recieved funds from British Government for the development. Toyota revealed the Hilux at Toyota Manufacturing plant which is located in Derby. A noticeable point is that the vehicle is a proto-type and the company has plans to build nine more prototypes like this one.
Hilux uses the same powertrain which was used in Toyota Mirai for ten years in a row, it is a reliable powertrain which produces no tailpipe emissions except for pure water.
Hilux comes with 3 high pressure fuel tanks. As per company claims, the pick-up truck provides the massive drive range of 587 km. The electricity proudced on-board is conserved in a battery placed at the rear load deck which doesn’t reduces cabin space.
The already available Hilux comes with a 2.8 litre turbo charged diesel engine which churns out the maximum power output of 201 bhp and a peak torque of 420 Nm or 500 Nm, depending on the transmission option that is offered by the company.
In India, the current Hilux is offfered in two variants in total- Standard and High. The automaker offers High variant only in automatic transmission.
In Indian automobile market, Hilux comes with the starting price of Rs. 30.40 lakh which goes upto Rs. 37 lakh. Hilux has rivals in the market like Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which is even more affordable and comes between the price range of Rs. 22.07 lakh- 27 lakh (Ex-showroom).
