IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar stated on Friday that two terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Warpora region of Sopore in J&K on the intervening night of July 22-23, including a top commander of the proscribed terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The encounter has now concluded, a search operation is underway.
The night-long operation at Warpora was initiated following an input by the Sopore Police, according to sources.
Kumar further stated that one of the slain terrorists, Fayaz War was involved in several attacks and the killings of civilians and security forces personnel. “He was the last perpetrator of violence in north Kashmir,” ANI quoted the IGP Kashmir as saying.
The place yielded incriminating items, including weapons and ammunition, according to the Kashmir Police.
The operation ended without any collateral damage in the morning, and the situation at the encounter site is now under control, according to the Kashmir Police.
2 LeM terrorists arrested from Bihar, Jammu
On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two terrorists relating to a conspiracy hatched by the members of the Lashker-e-Mustafa (LeM) outfit, an offshoot of proscribed terrorists organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, to carry out terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the NIA, the accused have been identified as Md Arman Ali (20) and Mohd Ehsanullah (23), they were arrested from Bihar and Jammu respectively.
