Uber: Uber, the popular ride-hailing app, is testing a fresh feature that lets customers hire drivers to do housework as part of its efforts to broaden its offerings beyond transportation. Bloomberg reported that this trial programme, called “Uber Tasks,” is being tested in a few cities now with hopes of rolling it out more widely soon. Read on to learn more.
Uber Tasks: What is it?
In the upcoming weeks, the feature is anticipated to debut in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Fort Myers, Florida. Uber drivers in cities that are included in the programme will have the option to sign up, which will enable them to assist clients with a variety of tasks like furniture assembly, modest home renovations, snow removal, and lawn mowing.
The corporation made this calculated decision just after reporting its weakest revenue growth in 2.5 years, which fell short of analysts’ projections. Some critics contend that Uber’s primary goal is to improve its financial performance, despite the corporation portraying this expansion as a means of giving its drivers and couriers more earning options.
What did the company say?
“This small pilot is the newest way for drivers and couriers to put their skills to work and earn on their own schedule,” an Uber spokesperson said. “We’re always thinking about how to bring people more ways to earn with Uber.”
It is noteworthy that Uber may have made a calculated strategic decision to diversify its business model and improve its financial performance by launching Uber Tasks, a gig economy company.
