The United State has been using national security as an excuse to bring down non-American companies, China said .
“TikTok has met almost all US demands, but still cannot be spared. Such bullying practice deviates from international trade rules and fair competition. It will also hurt US’ own interests,” Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
“There is credible evidence that leads me to believe that ByteDance … might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States,” the US President said in the order.
Under the fresh order, ByteDance is about to destroy all its copies of TikTok data attached to American users.
US security officials have expressed concern that the app, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, could be used to collect the personal data of Americans.
TikTok has denied accusations that it is controlled by or shares data with the Chinese government.
The fast-growing app has up to 80 million active monthly users in America and the ban would be a major blow for ByteDance.
“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Mr Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
