Vespa GTS: Vespa’s large-capacity GTS 300 line-up has consistently failed to enter the Indian market, but recent spy images suggest that there is yet hope. Let’s dig deeper and give it a closer look.

All about Vespa GTS Indian variant
Piaggio India is creating a new, more powerful engine exclusively for the Indian market, as we have previously reported. There hasn’t been any progress on this front for quite some time. The Vespa that was sighted testing here has design cues from the international-spec GTS 300 maxi-scooter, but its powerplant is distinct from anything that is currently available on the international or Indian markets. It looks like the engine is a lot bigger than the 150cc mill found in a vehicle like the Vespa Racing Sixties 150.
In contrast to the GTS 300 sold internationally, which has liquid cooling, the engine seen here is an air-cooled one. Although the GTS 300 engine is not used in any Piaggio vehicles offered in India, it is used in the Keeway Vieste 300 maxi-scooter and the Sixties 300i neo-retro scooter that are.
The Vespa scooter that was spotted here also has a digital dash unit, which resembles the top-of-the-line Vespa GTS 300 Supertech variation in terms of form. It should be noted that this model is the first Vespa to ever have a fully digital instrument panel. It is unknown whether Vespa would equip the production-spec scooter with an LCD display or a TFT dash similar to the GTS 300 Supertech.
Another strange thing about this model is that it has a rear drum brake, which is not present on any of the worldwide Vespa GTS 300 models. Despite the maxi-scooter positioning, this might indicate that Vespa is making an effort to keep expenses as low as possible.
It’s unclear when this large-capacity Vespa built for India will go on sale, but when it does, expect it to cost significantly more than the Vespa Racing Sixties 150, the Italian brand’s current flagship model in India, which costs Rs 1.5 lakh.
