Xi Jinping: Arriving in a bulletproof Chinese-made Hongqi limousine, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, California, on November 14. In this article, we will tell you all we know about this 18-foot bulletproof beast.
Xi Jinping’s Hongqi N701
Design details
The N701 distinguishes itself visually from other Hongqi models of the present day. A pair of darkened headlights is supplemented by a grille with vertical uprights and chrome surrounds that dominate the front fascia. The hood features a sizable red flag insignia, as is typical with Hongqi vehicles. The chrome window surrounds and strong B-pillars, the straightforward LED taillights, and the red flag insignia on the front fenders are additional eye-catching details.
Safety and performance
Despite having some similarities to the Chinese company’s huge H9 sedan, President Xi Jinping’s Hongqi is not a series production model. The N701 is said to be centred around the L5 and measures roughly 5.5 metres, or 18 feet, in length. Not surprisingly, not many specifics about it are kept under wraps, but it is believed to be equipped with a significant armour plate on the outside, bulletproof glass throughout, and 21-inch wheels and tyres.
Xi’s vehicle includes an air compression system that shields him from chemical attacks and can sustain blows from tiny explosives. Although Hongqi also produces a V8 that might be used, power is assumed to come from a 6.0-litre V12 that produces about 408 horsepower.
