The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has brought about a significant change in its evaluation process for class 10 and 12 board exams. CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj officially announced that divisions or distinctions will no longer be awarded to students.
Decision Authority on Best Subjects
An essential aspect of this update is the shift in responsibility for determining the best five subjects for calculating students’ marks. The decision now rests with the admitting college, providing a personalized and institution-specific approach to evaluating academic performance.
Calculation of Marks and Percentage
The CBSE clarifies that it does not calculate, declare, or inform the percentage of marks. For higher education or employment purposes, the onus of calculating the percentage, if required, rests with the admitting institution or employer. This approach promotes flexibility in evaluation standards.
This decision addresses concerns and questions raised regarding the criteria for calculating percentages in CBSE board exams. By removing the traditional practice of assigning divisions or distinctions and empowering colleges to decide on the best subjects, CBSE aims to create a more student-centric and flexible evaluation system.
As the board prepares to conduct class 10 and 12 exams starting from February 15, these changes mark a departure from the conventional approach to result announcements. The focus remains on fostering fairness, transparency, and a streamlined evaluation process that adapts to the evolving needs of students and institutions alike.
