In a major relief to students and their parents, Class 12 board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been cancelled, a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. The decision has been taken in view of the “uncertain conditions” posed by Covid-19 and based on feedback obtained from different stakeholders, it said. “Class XII results will be made as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner,” it added. Students who are willing to appear in examinations will be given an opportunity at a later feasible date.
The decision was taken in a crucial meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Ministers, education secretaries, other key education officials and stakeholders on Tuesday.
PM Modi said that Health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect. He added that the decision has been taken in the interest of students.
“Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth,” PM Modi tweeted.
The Covid-19 has affected the academic calendar and the issue of board exams was causing immense anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end, the Prime Minister said in the meeting.
