Air India, a part of the Tata Group, has announced its plans to establish a state-of-the-art aviation training academy in Gurugram, Haryana, spanning an expansive 600,000 sq ft. Expected to be the largest of its kind in South Asia, the academy aims to train more than 50,000 aviation professionals in various disciplines.
Comprehensive Training for Aviation Professionals
The academy will cater to a diverse range of aviation professionals, including pilots, cabin crew, ground handling personnel, engineering staff, and security personnel. This holistic approach aims to ensure a well-rounded training experience for individuals entering the aviation sector.
Operational Timeline and Capacity
Air India anticipates the aviation academy to commence operations in the upcoming year. The facility is equipped with over 20 Full Flight Simulator Bays (FFS) to replicate the conditions of Air India’s existing and future Airbus and Boeing fleets. This setup will enhance crew readiness and support the training of aviation professionals.
Joint Venture with Airbus for Training Center
Air India has collaborated with Airbus to develop 10 out of the 20 required Full Flight Simulators. The training center, set to be operational from early 2025, will initially install four A320 FFS. The courses offered at the Tata Airbus Training Centre will be approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School
In addition to the aviation training academy, Air India has plans to launch an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) school. This initiative is geared towards providing comprehensive training to engineering cadets within the aviation sector, further contributing to skill development in the industry.
