IIT Delhi: In order to reduce the stress level of the students, the Director of the IIT Delhi has issued an advisory to drop one set of mid semester exams. The decision has been taken considering the number of suicides by the students of IIT. The IIT students have been taking the extreme step of ending their lives due the enormous stress and anxiety and also the challenge and competition of securing more marks to reach the another level.
‘There will be 2 set of Exams with Evaluation’
The suicide attempts by the IIT students have also called for a debate in the whole country. The Director of the Institute said that there used to be 2 sets of exams in one semester, but thought of conducting a survey with the students and the teachers, and based on their suggestions and thoughts, we finally decided to drop one set of mid semester. After dropping this, there will be two sets of exams with a Routine evaluation. We had thought that the exam schedule is too stressful for the students, so we took this step.
‘Student’s Mental Well Being is also important’
We had also discussed the issue of Mental Well being of the student in the meeting, and we thought there is a need to address the stress issue of the student also. IITs have recorded the highest number of suicide cases.
