The IIT-Kanpur community is in mourning following the sudden demise of Professor Sameer Khandekar, who served as the Dean of Students Welfare and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. The 53-year-old professor suffered a cardiac arrest while delivering a speech on a health-related topic at an alumni meet on the campus.
Heartfelt Final Words: “Take Care of Your Health…”
In a poignant turn of events, Professor Khandekar’s last words, ironically, emphasized the importance of health. “Take care of your health…” were his parting words before he collapsed on the dais. He was swiftly rushed to Laxmipat Singhania Institute of Cardiology, where, unfortunately, he was declared “dead upon arrival.”
Battle with Cardiac Health: A Tragic Journey Since 2019
Sources from IIT-K reveal that Professor Khandekar had been grappling with cardiac health issues since 2019. Cardiologist Dr. Neeraj Kumar stated that, by the time the professor reached the hospital, he had already succumbed to cardiac arrest or cardiac block.
In a somber announcement, IIT-Kanpur Director Prof S. Ganesh expressed deep sorrow over “the loss of a humble soul.” The entire institute mourns the untimely passing of a respected academic figure.
Remembering a Life: Professor Sameer Khandekar’s Legacy
Survived by his parents, wife Pradyanya, and a son currently studying at Cambridge University, Professor Sameer Khandekar’s body is kept at the institute’s health center. The final rites will be conducted after his son’s arrival from the UK.
