Vice Chancellor, SRM University-AP signs an MoU with AMR Insights and NITTE, Deemed to be University at ICAFA 2023

SRM University-AP proudly inaugurated the highly anticipated two-day International Conclave on Antimicrobial Resistance and Future of Antibiotics (ICAFA 2023) on November 08, 2023. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Prof. Maarten Van Dongen, AMR Insights, The Netherlands; Prof. (Dr) Indrani Karunasagar, R&D Director, NITTE, Deemed to be University; Prof. Manoj K Arora Vice Chancellor,Dr R Premkumar, Registrar, Prof. Ranjit Thapa, Dean-Research; Prof. Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, Associate Dean in-charge (School of Engineering and Sciences)& Head of Biological Sciences Department,SRM University-AP and manyrenowned researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, aimed to shed light on the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance and foster collaborative efforts towards its mitigation.

Prof. Manoj K Arora delivered an inspiring opening speech highlighting the university’s commitment to promoting innovation and research that can drive positive change in society. He stated thatby hosting ICAFA 2023, SRM University-AP aims to create a platform for fruitful discussions, research collaborations, and policy recommendations to combat this global health crisis. An MoU was signed between SRM University-AP and AMR Insights and NITTE, Deemed to be University facilitating research collaborations to combat antimicrobial resistance.

The inauguration was followed by a press conference to facilitate discussions and raise awareness about the conclave’s objectives and outcomes. The conference provided an opportunity for renowned speakers, researchers, and experts to engage with media professionals, sharing valuable insights into the latest advancements in antimicrobial resistance.During the press conference, Prof. Jayaseelan Murugaiyan remarked,”The rise of antimicrobial resistance is a stark reminder of the limits of our current medical arsenal. It has the potential to reverse a century of progress in healthcare. We must act swiftly to develop innovative strategies, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and promote responsible use of antimicrobials to ensure a safer and healthier future for all.”

The conclave features an extensive program encompassing keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and poster presentations. By hosting ICAFA 2023, the university aims to contribute to global efforts in combating antimicrobial resistance by promoting awareness, fostering research collaborations, and empowering stakeholders to take proactive measures.
