Maharashtra: Teachers from Maharashtra’s Latur district wore black ribbons around their arms as a symbol of their opposition to the ‘Aaple Guru Abhiyan.’ Aaple guru Abhiyan’. The ‘Aaple guru Abhiyan’ was commenced by the state education department, on Tuesday an official said.
The teachers were members of the Congress’ teachers unit. These teachers began their protest yesterday, on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.

The teachers also voiced their opposition to comments made by BJP MLA Prashant Bamb, who claimed that certain Zilla Parishad teachers were receiving rent payments in addition to their salaries despite not living close to their places of employment.
“Teachers are entrusted with other tasks apart from schooling. Now, the education department has ordered to display of teachers’ photos in classrooms. The move has caused displeasure. Apart from this, MLA Bamb has made wrong statements about teachers,” district chief of the Teachers Congress Keshav Gambhir said.
