Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) continues to put up a strong display of its unwavering dedication towards improving the quality of education in schools. As a part of the same, the civic body will soon introduce a new audio series for its students which will be an addition to the storytelling exercise of the curriculum. The new program will come into action by the June end, officials familiar with the matter said.
MCD to introduce audiobooks in schools
Committed to exploring the vision of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP-led MCD has been making significant changes in the educational pattern of schools. In the latest, MCD has introduced an audiobook learning system, which will be a part of storytelling in the classroom.
“The impact of storytelling is the maximum on a child; it plays a huge role in shaping their future. In order to reduce screen time, we have come up with the idea of audiobooks. Under this, every evening around 7-8 pm, a story will be uploaded on our edulive portal,” said MCD mentor and coordinator Kumar Akhilesh.
Two levels of exercise
The exercise will be conducted in two levels. The first level will be for students from Classes nursery to 2, while the other is for students between classes 3 to 5.
“The National Book Trust recently held a workshop explaining the importance of storytelling and its impact, after which we came up with this idea,” Akhilesh added.
Interesting lineup of audiobooks
Tracing the roots, schools will bring stories from Panchatantra in Hindi. Gradually, the audiobooks will move to the class syllabus and will be made available in other languages, too. Along with inculcating moral values, the aim is also to enhance their language learning, speaking, and understanding abilities, said Akhilesh.
