From this academic year reservation for NEET UG and PG will be applicable. As government Approves OBC and EWS reservation for All India Quota seats for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses.
The Health Ministry has announced that in the All India Quota Scheme for UG and PG medical admissions, it has been decided to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBCs and 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections.
Around 5,500 students are likely to benefit from this reservation under the All India Quota. All medical and dental courses will come under the purview of this reservation.
The issue of reservation in NEET UG and PG was pending for a long time. On July 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed the concerned Union Ministers to find a solution to this problem. After this instructions have been given to implement reservation in NEET UG and PG admissions. With this decision, every year about 1500 OBC students in MBBS and 2500 OBC students in PG and about 550 EWS students in MBBS and about 1000 EWS students in PG will benefit.
In the year 2019, a constitutional amendment was made in which 10 percent reservation was given to the EWS category. According to media reports, after this, as a part of the reforms to give some more benefits, seats in medical and dental colleges were also increased in the last 2 years. These provisions were issued to provide more opportunities to the students and to accommodate the new increasing number of admissions under EWS reservation. But this category was not included in the All India Quota Scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also given information about this through social media. He called it a historic decision of the government.
