NEET 2024: NTA Tries to Pacify Aspirants! Addresses Result Controversy with New FAQ Release, Check

In response to the controversy surrounding the NEET (UG) – 2024 results, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an extensive FAQ that addresses a range of issues and claims. Learn more about the NTA's justifications and answers to frequently asked questions about the exam outcomes.

NEET 2024

NEET 2024: Due to differences in the distribution of scores and anomalies in the testing procedure, the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) 2024 results, which were released on June 4, have drawn intense criticism. An in-depth analysis of the information and instances pertaining to the marking system for the NEET 2024 exam is provided below.

Perfect Scores and Grace Marks

In the NEET 2024 exam, 67 candidates received a perfect score of 720, a first for history. But when it was discovered that a sizable percentage of these kids had obtained grace marks, worries surfaced. According to reports, 44 students received grace marks from the NTA (National Testing Agency), while 23 students apparently earned the perfect score on their own. The NTA gave the justification that these pupils had attempted to answer a physics question incorrectly by using an out-of-date NCERT textbook. The choice to give grace marks without warning or openness beforehand has sparked concerns about the uniformity and fairness of the marking procedure.

High Cut-offs and Rank Discrepancies

The NEET 2024 results also showed disparities in rank distribution and abnormally high cut-off values. There were some pupils who claimed to have received scores of 718 and 719, which caused both students and teachers to take notice. Attaining such precise results appeared unfeasible, considering the format of the NEET exam, which assigns four marks for each correct answer and negative marking for bad responses. The legitimacy of the examination process has been further undermined by the widespread conjecture and criticism that have resulted from this discrepancy.

Timing of Results and Lack of Transparency

There has been skepticism regarding the NEET 2024 results’ timing, which coincided with the declaration of the Lok Sabha election results. Numerous interested parties contend that this timing was a calculated attempt to deflect focus away from the disputes surrounding the examination. In addition, the NTA’s lack of openness and communication about the standards for awarding grace marks and the reasoning behind particular mark distributions has increased parents’ and students’ mistrust and cynicism.

Amidst so many allegations, now NTA has released an FAQ related to Post Declaration of the NEET (UG) – 2024 Result. NTA has tried to answer all the questions. Let’s know what NTA said:

Q. What was the role of the Grievance Redressal Committee in giving the Compensatory marks for time loss and why was it done?

A. Few Writ Petitions were filed by the candidates of NEET (UG) – 2024 before the Hon’ble High Courts for loss of exam time in the NEET (UG) – 2024 exam at few Centres. Accordingly, a Grievance Redressal Committee was formed which considered the grievances/representations based on factual reports of the functionaries and CCTV footage from concerned exam Centres. To compensate for the loss of time, such candidates were compensated with compensatory marks.

Q. How were the Compensatory marks calculated?

A. The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with marks based on their answering efficiency and time lost, as per the mechanism/ formula established by the Hon’ble Apex Court, vide its judgment dated 13.06.2018 in W.P. 551 of 2018. 1563 candidates were compensated for the loss of time.

Q. How can any candidate score 718 and 719 marks in the NEET (UG) 2024?

A. Due to the compensatory marks, two candidates happened to secure 718 and 719 marks.

Q. Did the 44 perfect scorers (720/720), who benefited from the Physics question with two correct answers, also receive compensatory or grace marks?

A. No, as previously stated, compensatory marks were solely given to address the loss of time.

Q. Is it true that there has been a paper leak in Bihar or Godhra?

A. It is to be noted that none of the reports are backed with evidence that may indicate a paper leak. These cases seem to be related to cheating/impersonation and not to paper leaks. While the outcome of the investigation in aforesaid cases is awaited, NTA has categorically denied any case of paper leak.

(Ref- Press Release dated 05.05.2024 and 06.05.2024) Further, NTA has its own Security Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, it has been found that all Question Papers which have been printed have been accounted for, and there is no question of Paper Leak.

NTA has recently received communication from Patna Police regarding the requirement of documents concerning certain candidates. All relevant information and documents have been proactively provided to them. NTA remains committed to fully supporting and assisting all investigations and law enforcement agencies involved in this matter

In Conclusion, the NEET 2024 exam results have revealed notable disparities and anomalies in the distribution of scores, giving rise to grave worries regarding the impartiality and clarity of the testing procedure. The destiny of thousands of prospective medical students is in jeopardy while stakeholders continue to push for accountability and openness. A settlement that preserves the values of justice and honesty in education is needed.
