Punjab News: The Punjab government has declared a public holiday across the state on October 15, 2024, in light of the Panchayat Elections. This holiday will apply to all schools, government offices, boards, and corporations in Punjab and Chandigarh. The decision has been officially notified, marking the day as a gazetted holiday.
Extended to Chandigarh
The holiday announcement is aimed at facilitating the smooth conduct of the General Elections to Gram Panchayats. The notification also extends the holiday to government offices and educational institutions located in Chandigarh. Moreover, it applies under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, ensuring a complete shutdown of official activities on election day.
Notification Issued to Relevant Authorities
The Punjab government has sent the notification to all relevant departments, including Commissioners, Registrars, and Deputy Commissioners, to ensure compliance with the holiday declaration.
This step is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the participation of citizens in the Panchayat elections, promoting democratic processes at the grassroots level.
