Ranchi News: Following a fight on campus, the administration of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the largest government hospital and medical college in Jharkhand, has temporarily suspended undergraduate academic activities and ordered students to leave the hostel, according to officials on Thursday.

600 Students from 2019-2022 Batches Forced to Vacate Dorms

On Thursday at 7 p.m., 600 students from the 2019 through 2022 batches are expected to leave the dorms. The college management made the choice as a result of a brawl between two batches of students on Tuesday night. After a few days, the government would redistribute hostels to students, according to Dr. Shiv Priya, dean of students’ welfare.

RIMS Administration Aims to Resolve Campus Turmoil

“The decision has been taken to defuse the situation. We will ensure the students do not have any academic loss. We will gradually revoke suspension of classes in a phased manner. Senior students would be called first. Hostels would reallocated to all students, who would have to come along with their parents and sign an affidavit about their future conduct in the hostel,” said Priya. She added that “A couple of students have been identified as major troublemakers. Action against them would be taken separately.” Following the altercation amongst the students, several of them allegedly misbehaved with the security personnel and broke into the director’s home, vandalising various areas. Students gathered at the RIMS administrative building on Thursday morning to protest the decision to cancel hotel reservations and suspend classes. The administration, however, remained certain in their choice.
