Ranchi News: City Schools Promote Regular Attendance with Innovative Approaches

Ranchi News

Ranchi News: To ensure that students enrolled in Classes IX attend class, private institutions have developed measures like holding frequent examinations, offering practical classes, and conducting regular evaluations. According per the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) recommendations to XIl. Classes IX through XII students must maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75% in accordance with the regulations. If a student doesn’t comply with this criteria starting in the first week of August, points will be taken away from their internal evaluation. During the Covid-19 outbreak, the board had already waived Students from attendance requirements.

CBSE’s Emphasis on Regular Attendance and Internal Evaluation Grading

All schools have received letters from the CBSE requiring them to send a list of pupils who don’t consistently attend classes to the local CBSE office. Schools are required to keep track of the number of kids who attend each day. The internal evaluation, worth 20 points, also considers attendance. Prior to now, attendance in school was graded. But today, grades for internal assessment would only be given to children who regularly attend school. The principal of Firayalal Public School, Niraj Kumar Sinha, said, “The school takes periodic tests twice a week besides practical classes and regular assessments to call students to campus. Moreover, students are required to provide a valid reason for their absence. By implementing these measures, we hope to maintain high attendance rates, which are crucial for academic progress and overall student development.” Continuing in the same vein, the vice-principal of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Lalan Kumar, said, “The school holds tests every Monday to ensure regularity. Additionally, the school gives a holiday to the students on the last day of each month. These steps are aimed at motivating students to attend school consistently. If a student’s attendance is low and he/she is absent for over a week, the parents are called.”

Strict Measures Implemented by Schools to Tackle Truancy and Maintain Parental Involvement

Ashok Kumar, the principal of DAV Alok School, stated that students who miss class without notification or a legitimate excuse face fines as punishment. “The fine rises progressively, except in cases of medical conditions for absentees. Furthermore, students are required to come to school with their parents if they are absent without a valid reason.” A parent of a student enrolled in Class IX with Sarala Birla School, Smriti Kumari, said, “Sometimes students bunk school and parents are unaware of it. Hence, the steps taken by the schools such as calling the parents of truant students to the campus would help the parents to remain connected with the institutions and know about the students progress.”
