According to news agency ANI, the Indian Army on Saturday announced a change in the selection procedure for agnaveers, establishing an online Common Entrance Exam for all applicants at specified centres, followed by a physical fitness and medical test for qualified applicants.
About 200 locations across India will host the inaugural online Common Entrance Exam in April 2023, for which all preparations have been completed. According to Army officials, online registration applications will be available starting in the middle of February for a month.
“The changed methodology will ensure an increased focus on the cognitive aspect during selection. It will have wider outreach across the country and also reduce the large crowds seen during recruitment rallies to make them more manageable and easier to conduct,” the Army officials added.
Notably, the order of the Agniveers recruitment process was different in the past. Prior to their medical exams, candidates had to pass a physical fitness test. The last stage was to pass the Common Entrance Exam.
An army official claims that the new procedure, which makes passing the entrance exam the first step in the screening process, would result in more qualified candidates who will then be inspected for their physical fitness and put through medical testing.
It should be emphasised that as of now, 19,000 Agniveers have enlisted in the Army, and 21,000 more will do so starting in the first week of March. Around 40,000 people willing to join the Indian Army, the new recruitment process will apply to around 40,000 candidates.
