Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed-to-be-University), a NAAC ‘A’ Grade Accredited University (SIET), and African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) signed an MoU on Wednesday the 10th May 2023 to cooperate and collaborate with each other for agricultural and rural development by addressing the challenges through technological interventions and capacity enhancement. Recently AARDO has signed MOU with IT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency, Dr Manoj Nardeosingh, Secretary General, AARDO and Prof. (Dr.) Amar P. Garg, Vice Chancellor, Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology, (Deemed -to-be-University) in the august presence of Kunwar Shekhar Vijendra, Chancellor, Shobhit University and Mr. Rami Qtaishat, Asst. Secretary General, AARDO and other dignitaries
The cooperation between SIET and AARDO will be in the following main areas:
Technological interventions in the areas of energy, transportation, sustainable agriculture, crop diversification with industrial crops, organic farming, rural settlement, farm machinery development, ergonomics, agricultural informatics, agricultural automation, smart tools and machines, smart irrigation, low-cost greenhouse, non-invasive soil health monitoring and testing, nano-fertilizers, biofuel and bioenergy, zero-waste process/product development, soil-to-soil technology, medicinally important plants, food fortification to address malnutrition, food processing & value-addition, agribusiness development, agricultural Value Chain automation, smart farming, automation and food process industry, water & waste management, diffusion and transfer models/channels for effective adoption of innovative, affordable and appropriate techniques etc.
Welcoming the Mol with SIET, Meerut, His Excellency, Dr. Manoj Nardeosingh, Secretary General, AARDO said that signing of this MOU is a historical occasion in which 32 Governments and two associate members are partners with galaxy of stakeholders. He further said that AARDO is very much rural centric organization and this MOU would strive for fulfilling the noble cause of Education, Rural Development, Capacity building and developing leaders in rural development. He urged that planning should be made so that local technology be merged with global advanced technology for advanced food and agriculture technology. He stressed the need for mainstreaming rural development in the agenda of economic development.

Shri Kunwar Shekhar Vijendra, Hon’ble Chancellor, SIET, Meerut said that it is very important day for the Shobhit University and for the nation also. The signing of this MOU will not only pave the way for human resource development, capacity building and exchange programme but it will go beyond that in impacting the lives of people of 34 nations of Africa and Asia and especially to the youth population of these countries. “He termed this association as AARDO University ie as 32 nations are representing in Shobhit University. He said that wisdom is the creator of todays science and both organization together will make effort to lead the world in the area of rural development and agriculture technology.
Prof. (Dr.) Amar P. Garg, Vice Chancellor, SIET while welcoming the MOU said that with the enactment of this MOU we will be able to do more positive for the growth and development of all countries under AARDO by way of joint research projects, exchange of students, agriculture technologies. This association will prove to be a milestone for both the organizations.
Prof. M. Moni, Professor Emeritus and Chairman, CAIRS,SIET gave a detailed account of aim and objectives of this MOU. He said that this day is the landmark day both for SIET and AARDO. This MOU will pave the way for beginning of scientific exchange of students and some 50 scholarships would be sponsored by the SIET, Meerut for the AARDO member countries students for study in Shobhit University.
Mr. M.C. Dominic, Founder and Editor-in- Chief, Krishi Jagaran and Agriculture World stressed the need for making the farmers rich by way of quality farming and joint venture amongst Asian and African Countries.
Under the MoU, SIET and AARDO have also agreed to,
(i) Organization of Human Resource Development, Capacity Enhancement, Education and Training programmes:
(ii) Organization of international, regional and On-The-Spot (OTS) /in country training programmes/workshops to strengthen the institutional capacity in the Member Countries in sustainable agriculture and rural development.
(iii) Organization of Workshops/Seminars/Conferences/Roundtables for various levels of participation and different levels of coverage such as International/Regional/National levels;
(iv) Joint exploration and implementation of Technology-based Development PILOT Projects by utilizing each other’s human, technical and financial resources, subject to modalities, towards achieving common goals;
(v) Conducting research for action-research studies of specific or of common interest.
(vi) Exchange of subject experts/specialists for sharing of knowledge, expertise and experiences;
(vii) Exchange of scholars/students/volunteers to assist in adoption of technology solutions and implementation of joint tech-based development pilot projects, training of grassroots functionaries/beneficiaries, and learning from varied experiences;
(viii) Exchange programs and internships for UG/PG students, faculty, staff and researchers with universities and Institutes in the Member Countries.
(ix) Technical support in project formulations and consultancy in the area of policy formulation;
(x) Strengthening Institutional networking for enhanced collaboration in the fields of agriculture and rural development;

African Asian Rural Development Organization, New Delhi is mandated to develop understanding among members for better appreciation of each other’s problems and to collectively explore, opportunities for coordination of efforts for the welfare and eradication of thirst, hunger, illiteracy, disease and poverty amongst rural people in the African-Asian region. Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, Meerut has been granted Deemed-to-be University Status by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development (now called Ministry of Education), Department of Higher Education vide its Notification No. F-9-37/2004-U. 3 (A) dated November 8, 2006 under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956. Under Section 3 of the UGG Act, Deemed-to-be University status is granted by the Central Government to those educational institutions of repute, which fulfill the prescribed standards and comply with various requirements laid down by the UGC.
