Students who have been pursuing MBBS abroad are in for a surprise. In a major development, these students will also be given allowance like other MBBS students during internship. The order has been issued by the Directorate General of Medical Education. Lohia Institute in Lucknow has 200 MBBS seats. There are 250 seats in KGMU MBBS. After completing four years of studies, MBBS students must complete one year of their internship during which they will be given an allowance. Students who have completed their MBBS from abroad will also be eligible to apply for an internship in India during which they will also be given a stipend.
MBBS students studying abroad to get allowance
The decision has been taken given students’ welfare by the Directorate General of Medical Education. It has also been decided to give internship allowance to the students pursuing MBBS from abroad.
The system has been implemented this year itself. A separate batch of MBBS students from abroad has started at Lohia Institute. Now these students will also be allotted an internship allowance of Rs 12,000 per month. The director of the institute, Dr. Sonia Nityanand says that the new internship for the students will bring new opportunities.
NExT step 1 in February
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently released an academic calendar in its Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) regulations 2023. The new batch of MBBS students enrolling in medical colleges will be able to take their National Exit Test (NExT) Step 1 in February 2028 and the NExT Step 2 in February 2029.
