A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Thursday in the matter giving admission to medical students returning from Ukraine to India’s medical college. During this, the Center said in its reply that it is not legally possible to give admission to these students in India. The Center says that these people can complete the degree in any other country’s college with the consent of their Ukrainian college. The government has approved it.
The Center also told the Supreme Court that students who went to Ukraine either went there because of getting low marks in NEET or were attracted by cheap studies. Now if they are given place in big colleges of India then it will be wrong with other talented students. Then cases will be filed on their behalf.
On 7 September, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had issued an order regarding the admission of students who had returned from Ukraine. The NMC has agreed to recognize the Academic Mobility Program offered by Ukraine. However, these students will be awarded degrees only from the original university of Ukraine. Along with this, NMC had allowed these students to complete their studies from any university in the world.
Along with this, many universities of Russia have also come forward to help Indian students to complete their medical studies. Earlier, during the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Government of India had said that the case of these Indian students of Ukraine is under consideration. About 20 thousand Indian students were studying in Ukraine.
