NEET UG 2024: In response to several appeals for a reexamination, the Supreme Court has acknowledged that the NEET UG 2024 question paper was actually leaked. Significant doubts regarding the integrity of the national medical admission exam have been raised by this development.
Supreme Court Notes Red Flags in NEET UG 2024 Results
The supreme court noted concerning signs during the hearing on Monday, including the fact that 67 candidates received a perfect score of 720/720, which is a remarkably high percentage when compared to prior years. The court stated that another test might be required if the leak had spread over social media.
“We must be cautious about the extent of the leak before ordering a re-test, considering the impact on 23 lakh students,” remarked the Supreme Court bench, which included Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
Centre and NTA Oppose Exam Cancellation
The Centre and NTA are against canceling the exam, stating that it would be “counterproductive” and harm the prospects of honest candidates without concrete evidence of widespread misconduct. They argue that scrapping the exam would jeopardize the future of many students who took the test sincerely.
The NTA and the Centre have been under scrutiny and faced protests from students and political parties over allegations of significant malpractices, including question paper leaks and impersonation.
Affidavits Filed
In response to the petitions, the Union Education Ministry and the NTA have filed affidavits with the Supreme Court, opposing the exam’s cancellation. They highlighted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now investigating the cases from different states.
“It is not rational to scrap the entire examination without proof of a large-scale breach of confidentiality,” the Centre stated in its preliminary affidavit. The NTA echoed this stance, emphasising that canceling the exam would be significantly harmful to the careers of qualified candidates.
