Board Exams Twice a Year: According to the Ministry of Education‘s new curriculum framework released on Wednesday, students in grades 11 and 12 must study two languages, at least one of which must be an Indian language. The framework also stated that students would be permitted to keep their top score from the twice-yearly board exams. In grades 11 and 12, students will have more freedom to choose their studies; they will not be limited by streams. According to the MoE, the practise of ‘covering’ textbooks in class will end, and textbook costs will be reduced.
New Education Framework Aims for ‘On Demand’ Exams
According to the new curricular framework from the MoE, school boards must eventually build the capacity to conduct assessments “on demand.” Before beginning this task, board exam test developers and assessors will complete university-certified courses, according to the framework. The New Education Policy (NEP) curriculum is ready, according to ministry officials, and textbooks will be created based on it for the 2024 academic year, PTI reported on Wednesday.
Focus Shifts from Rote Learning to Competency Assessment
The board exams will examine comprehension and achievement of competencies rather than months of coaching and memorization in order to make them “easier” than the present “high stakes” practise. “Board exams will be offered at least twice a year to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. Students can then appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for. They will also be allowed to retain the best score,” it said. Classes 11 and 12 will have more topic options and won’t be limited to only the Arts, Science, or Commerce streams.
