The UGC ( University Grant’s Commission ) advises Universities and colleges to finish last semester examination by September ends.
The UGC will not recommend cancellation of the final semester examination.
On 29 April UGC had released an Indicative academic calendar for Universities. They had prescribed higher education institution to conduct final year or last semester exam from July 1 to 15 . And also asked them to declare the result till month ends.
But later on June 24 the government had asked the UGC to reconsider their calendar in view of Covid-19 pandemic and lock down.
”For students who cannot appear for the final semester or final year exam, the universities will hold a special exam after September. And those who could not pass the exam will also be allowed to improve,” said an Officer.
Now UGC had revised the guidelines. And advised the institutions to conduct pending final year exam .
Meanwhile at least seven states had already cancelled their examination without bothering to wait for UGC fresh guideline’s. Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Orissa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are seven states who have cancelled their University examination.
Thus, the guideline of UGC will affect the examination throughout the nation.
However it is unclear whether the states will revisit their declaration about cancelling exam or not.
Students are very upset by this decision, #UGC is trending on twitter . They want the government to pass them on marking based on previous semester result. Here is some tweets of students;
