A special showing of the movie was arranged to commemorate the film’s 25 years since its debut. The release date of this movie was April 30, 1999. John Mathew Mathan directed it; it was his first feature picture. Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Director John Mathew Mathaan and the other cast members were seen at the special screening. Fans talked about the release of the second part and asked several questions. Aamir answered their question on Sarfarosh 2 and said, “Aapne hum sabke dil ki baat chheen li hai. Main to kai saalo se John ke peechhe pada hoon ki banao. Balki humne jo film ka aakhri scene hai usme thoda sa feeling bhi di thi ki Sarfarosh 2 aane waali hai.”
He added, “I can commit about one thing, that we will definitely give it a really serious shot now of coming up with the right script and the right kind of film for it. So John you will have to get to work here.”

Sarfarosh was inspired by the battle against international terrorism fought by an Indian police officer. Reception was given to Aamir’s portrayal of Ajay Singh Rathod against Naseeruddin Shah’s antagonist Gulfam Hassan.
