Fight for survival
Sidharth Sengupta, known for directing thrillers like ‘Apharan,’ ‘Undekhi,’ and ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein,’ is caught in a story that pits tribal people against the modern world in a struggle to survive.
Tribals of Degohaati live in the dense jungle of ‘Jagdalganj’. But when Reuben Bhatta’s (Ashish Vidyarthi) mining company discovers a Uranium ore deposit near the forest, their lives are at risk. Reuben is greedy and is eyeing the land. Sarju, the son of a tribal leader and a skilled archer, takes it upon himself to save his people.
Then enter Pullappaa aka Langda Tyagi (Dibyendu Bhattacharya), a contract killer who employs trained tribals as his hitmen, and special crime branch officer Aditya Dutt (Sumeet Vyas), on trial. Dr Sangamitra Das (Patralekha Paul) is a doctor who wants to aid tribals. They all gey caught in parallel plots that heighten the drama and take the story forward.
Story looks authentic
The eight-part series is set amidst misty hills and waterfalls, nestled amongst thick jungle trees. It begins on a slow note but with Sarju’s entry, the story takes an engrossing turn. The story is written in an authentic and realistic manner.
There are times when it look as if things are too conveniently placed for the protagonist. The drama is laced with some nail-biting sequences, especially in episode seven, named ‘Final Countdown’.
Aditya Rawal, Ashish Vidyarthi shine
Aditya Rawal and Ashish Vidyarthi save the show, They deliver honest performances. Rawal excels in his action scenes, and Vidyarthi is brilliant at portraying a menacing character. Dibyendu Bhattacharya is convincing.
Shilpa Shukla, Vaarun Bhagat and Sumeet Vyas have very little to do. Even Patralekha’s character, Sanghamitra Das, who’s a doctor and connects with the tribals, falls short in terms of an emotional curve.
Watch ‘Aar Ya Paar’ for its out-of-the-box concept and stellar performances.
