Adipurush: The controversies surrounding Adipurush continue to evolve with negative reactions pouring in from all corners. What was projected as a larger-than-life experience turned out to be a total disaster with the film allegedly hurting the sentiments of many Indians by distorting facts. Another factor that has not been received well by the audience is the ‘cringe-worthy’ dialogues written by Manoj Muntashir. Amid the helm of the controversy, people are visiting back to Ramanand Sagar’s that still sends shivers down spine. Now, Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhlia, and Sunil Lahiri who played the roles of Ram, Sita, and Laxman have weighed in on the controversy.
Arun Govil aka Lord Ram reacts to Adipurus
Arun Govil, who is a household name courtesy of his portrayal of the role of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has shared his disappointment with the latest adaptation of the holy book. He told India Today, “I have not seen the film, but whatever I have heard, there are a few very controversial lines and I feel it’s not up to the mark. Lord Hanuman, we worship him, he is our god, and god talking in this language is not done. I don’t think it should have been there. I read the tweet by Manoj Muntashir and he has said that they are taking it back. That’s nice of them that they have thought of taking it back.’
Deepika Chikhlia is the ‘OG Sita’
Dipika Chikhlia, who is best known for playing the role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, shared a video of herself. The clip showed her dressed as Sita and the fans are all hearts. In the clip, the actor wore a saffron saree that sent fans on a nostalgic trip. Dipika wrote in her caption, “This post is on public demand… I am grateful for the love I have always received for the role I played… Me as Sita ji…could not have asked for more…”.
The video definitely called for comparisons with many fans hailing the OG Ramayana, calling the Rs 600 crore Adipurush ‘trash. “600 crore times better than Kriti Sanon,” one fan wrote.
Sunil Lahri aka Laxman calls the dialogues ‘bekar’
Sunil Lahri, well known for playing the role of Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has not very well liked Om Raut’s Adipurush. Sharing a video on his Instagram, he raised several questions – why would Raavan come on a bat instead of a Pushpak Viman and why would Meghnad and Lakshman fight underwater. He also termed the dialogue poor, adding that makers should feel sorry for presenting this to the audience. “I had high expectations from Adipurush that I will get to see something different but it is very disappointing. You can’t play with your culture in the name of doing something different, especially those who are our own. The characters are not defined. The audience doesn’t find any emotional attachment with the scenes. In fact the dialogues are also very bekaar (poor).”
Despite negative reviews, Adipurush continues to break records. The film has minted over Rs 340 crores in just three days and shows no signs of stopping.
