An Action Hero: From the outside An Action Hero is a simple revenge story that soon turns into a twisted tale of a superstar, his unexpected adventures and how he falls from grace.
Anirudh Iyer’s directorial debut touches the celebrity culture, superstars’ two minutes of fame followed by public backlash and media trials. This 132-minute action-packed drama has a juicy plot with a firm grip on the narrative.
Ayushmann in a never before avtaar
Ayushmann Khurrana, known for socially relevant dramas, is seen here in a never-before-seen avatar. He plays Maanav, a Bollywood action hero who wears his stardom on his sleeve. In the process, he loses track of reality when Bhoora Solanki (Jaideep Ahlawat), blames him for his brother’s mysterious death. Then begins a cat-and-mouse game and the real action begins.
Iyer takes a bit long in setting up the plot, most of the first half is spent on that. However, the second half picks pace and becomes an all-out action film with several elements to keep you hooked. However, random characters introduced throughout the film don’t only add to the length of the film.

Seeti-maar performance
Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat hold the film’s narrative together. Ayushmann’s is a strong, arrogant and flamboyant personality as an actor, yet, vulnerable when he has to live a common man’s life. His physical transformation for the film is incredible. Jaideep’s performance and his Haryanvi accent are perfect. Though the character lacks depth, he has some of the funniest seeti-maar punchlines in the film. Comedy and action make this laugh-out-loud movie stand out.
Nora Fatehi and Malaika Arora add to the oomph factor with their dance on reprised versions of ‘Jehda Nasha’ and ‘Aap Jaisa Koi.’
The film could have been tighter, but its fair dose of action and comedy backed with good performances makes An Action Hero worth a watch.
