Periods or menstruation is an important event that takes place in every girl’s life. Addressing the time she got her first period, Ankita Lokhande in her latest podcast is going viral. She said, “Jab mera first period aaya, mai bathroom mei gayi and I start bleeding. I was I think in 6th or 7th standard, mainey aise hi panty utari or fir rakh di. Arpan gaya bathroom mei or usne vo chiz dekhi aur usko blood dikha aur wo mumma ke pass aake bolta hai ‘Mumma minty marne wali hai naa? Ab mai use kabhi nahi maruga!’ toh you know tab ladko ko bhi shayad inta knowledge nahi tha. Shayad mujhe bhi itna knowledge nahi tha!”
She further adds, “Hmare yaha ek function hota hai, jab periods aate hai ladki ke toh you know haldi kumkum kiya jata hai ladki ka. Matlab usko gifts diye jaate hai! Toh vo sab chize mere sath ho rahi thii aur mujhe samjh mei hi nahi aa raha tha ki mere sath aisa kyu ho raha hai?” She then explained that later she understood its importance. She said, “After a while, I got to know ki it’s a very good sign that now you’re a woman.”
Her story clearly depicts the unawareness of that time and how cultures take menstruation. Her talks also explained that embracing your womanhood is absolutely beautiful.
