Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was grilled by the Mumbai Police at Versova Police Station on Thursday over rape case filed by actress Payal Ghosh. The Producer-Director had called the allegations t “baseless” and said he intends to take legal action in the matter. He was summoned on Wednesday.
Payal Ghosh had earlier met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari along with Rajya Sabhi MP and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale seeking Mr Kashyap’s arrest.
“We have given a letter to the governor seeking protection, and informed him about the case. Ramdas Athawale ji also requested him to look into the matter because the police are not doing anything. He assured us that he is concerned about atrocities against women happening in the state and will be looking into the matter. I have asked for Y-category security for Payal and myself. Payal has threat to her life and I am protecting her, so I am also vulnerable from anti-social elements,” Ghosh’s lawyer Nitn Supde said.
Ghosh had accused Kashyap of ‘raping’ her seven years ago. In an interaction with Etimes, her advocate, Nitin Supde, said, “‘The written complaint that has been lodged is for the offence of rape, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, and outraging the modesty of women under sections 376, 354, 341, and 341.”
The actress had filed complaint against the filmmaker on September 27. She had also sought Y- category security from the government as she believed Bollywood is ganging up against her.
Ghosh had also threatened a hunger strike, questioning delay in filmmaker’s arrest.
Meanwhile, Kashyap has also received support from various sections of Bollywood, including ex-wives Kalki Koechlin and Aarti Bajaj both of whom have defended him. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, Taapsee Pannu and Huma Qureshi have also come in support of Kashyap.
