New Delhi: Veteran actress Asha Parekh will be bestowed with India’s highest film honour, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for her immaculate contribution to the Indian cinema, news agency ANI said in a tweet. “Dada Saheb Phalke Award to be conferred to actor Asha Parekh this year: Union Minister Anurag Thakur,” read ANI’s tweet.
Asha Parek made her Bollywood debut with 1952 film Aasmaan. She is best known for starring in films like Do Badan, Upkar and Caravan, among many others. Last year, Rajinikanth was honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2019. The awards were delayed by a year due to the pandemic.
Asha Parekh was one of the top stars in Hindi films from 1950-1973. She was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992. She was also the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) of India.

Additionally, she appeared in regional films in other languages, such as Gujarati, Punjabi, and Kannada. She appeared in Punjabi movies such as Lambhardarni with Dara Singh and Kankan De Ohle with Dharmendra.
Talking about not getting married, the 79-year-old icon told Harper’s Bazaar India recently, “I guess I was not destined to get married. Honestly, I would have loved to get married and have children, but it wasn’t meant to be. However, I have absolutely no regrets.” She is often seen with her other celebrity friends on Instagram and on talent reality shows on television. She celebrated her birthday last year with veteran actors Waheeda Rahman and Jackie Shroff.
