Robert Oppenheimer made headlines and excitement way before it’s release. But as the movie hit theaters, Indian fans doesn’t seem happy. The movie is facing severe backlash over a scene where the two lead roles can be seen getting intimated which reading verses from the Bhagavad Gita.

One of the prominent voices leading the uproar is Government of India Information Commissioner, Uday Mahurkar. This scene portrays an intimate encounter accompanied by recitations from the Bhagavad Gita. Mahurkar labeled the scene as a “disturbing assault on Hinduism” and urged Nolan to globally remove it from the film.

The portrayal of such a sacred Hindu text in the context of a personal moment between characters has been deemed offensive and inconsiderate towards the religious convictions of a billion tolerant Hindus.
The controversy has also sparked inquiries regarding the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) choice to endorse the movie without removing the controversial scene.
