Badshah on Honey Singh: Rapper Badshah and Yo Yo Honey Singh have gone through some real turbulent times, and this is something that has been in the eyes of the public for quite some time. At the center of the tension between the two artists lies actually the disputes over musical credits and their personal differences. The musicians were part of the collective popularly known as Mafia Mundeer but have recently fallen out, very publicly at that.
The Origins of the Feud
The roots of their discord go back to a dispute over the song “Brown Rang.” Badshah claims credit for its writing, while Honey Singh claims he is the author. Added to these are a few more fights, which have resulted in the cold relations between them, notwithstanding the fact that they started together.
Recently, during an appearance as a guest on Lallantop’s ‘Guest in the Newsroom,’ Badshah talked about the possibility of a collaboration with Honey Singh over a song in the future. And quite unequivocally, he stated, “No, the song will not be made.” As for the two rappers reconciling their differences in the future, Badshah replied with much certainty: “There is no such possibility.”. He added, “I am not in that state of mind right now to collaborate. If it happens later, I don’t know. I think there is a lot of difference between us even at the ideological level.” Badshah questioned Honey Singh’s motives, implying that Singh is hungrier for stardom and sensation, whereas Badshah himself seeks musical capabilities.
Badshah’s First Encounter with Honey Singh
Badshah recalled his first meeting with Honey Singh in 2006, when he finished his B. Tech. Badshah was rapping along with doing a job in a private company when he got to know Honey Singh. They were introduced by Anup Singh, the manager of both. Badshah was asked to work with Honey Singh, but soon things didn’t go so smooth between them.
Honey Singh told that both Badshah and his father had come to meet him. On the other hand, when Badshah was asked about this, he said that the studio manager Anup had told him that 10 lakh rupees would be needed to make the album. He and his father had gone to Honey Singh with that. And that album never came.
The Controversy Over ‘Angrezi Beat‘
The two have also had a tussle over the song “Angrezi Beat.” Honey Singh claimed that he had come up with the song, while Badshah was firm that he did the rap for the song. The beat of the song was churned out in front of him, claims Badshah, who says he has always backed Honey Singh, despite the tussle. Badshah said, ‘Now what should I say. Factually, I have written this song. This beat was made in front of me. It was a very strong beat. At that time, Gippy was shooting with Honey Singh. He had sung this song to Honey Singh. Honey narrated it to me. After which I wrote the rap for it. I was always happy for Honey Singh.”
The never-ending fiasco today serves to spell out the complications of creative partnerships and personal rivalries that go as far as hostile at times within the music business. With both artists already into their respective solo careers, their history serves as a reminder that professional disagreements can overshadow collaborative successes.
