Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and producer-director Kiran Rao have announced divorce after 15 years of marriage, saying they are ready to start a new chapter. They said that as parents they will raise the child together.
Statement issued by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao:
In a joint statement, both said they would continue to work together for films, their NGO Paani Foundation and other projects.
“In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other,” a statement issued by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao read.
Both thanked their families and friends for their support. “A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap.
We request our well-wishers for good wishes and blessings and hope that – like us – you will see this divorce not as an end but as the start of a new journey,” it added.
Aamir and Kiran met on sets of film ‘Lagaan’
Aamir Khan (56) and Kiran Rao (47) first met in 2001 on the sets of the actor’s film ‘Lagaan’. At the time, Khan was married to his first wife, Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children. Khan and Kiran got married in December 2005. Azad Rao Khan was born in his family in December 2011.
Aamir had revealed that he started dating Kiran after that phone call. They dated and lived together for 1-2 years. Then Aamir Khan realized that he could not think of his life without Kiran.
On work front, Khan will be next seen in “Laal Singh Chadha”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Khan will be next seen in “Laal Singh Chadha”, an official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ acclaimed movie “Forrest Gump”. The film is being produced by Rao, who has also backed several others films, including “Dangal” and “Secret Superstar”.
