The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a jab at the Congress party, using Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, “Jawan,” as a reference point. The BJP claimed that the movie exposes the Congress’s 10-year reign characterized by corruption and policy paralysis from 2004 to 2014.
BJP’s Perspective:
- BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia expressed gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan for what he sees as the movie “Jawan” shedding light on the Congress’s governance during the UPA government.
- Bhatia stated that the film serves as a reminder of the “tragic political past” during the UPA government and highlighted various alleged scams such as CWG, 2G, and coal-gate that took place during that period.
- He emphasized that the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained a “clean record” without any significant scandals in the past nine and a half years.
- Bhatia cited the film’s dialogue, “Hum jawaan hain, apni jaan hazaar baar daon par laga sakte hain, lekin sirf desh ke liye; tumhare jaise desh bechne walo ke liye hargiz nahi” (We are young, and we can risk our lives a thousand times, but only for the country), as being apt for the Gandhi family.
- He mentioned that during the “Congress era,” approximately 1.6 lakh farmers had committed suicide, while the NDA government had implemented initiatives like the minimum support price (MSP) and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to benefit farmers.
- Bhatia also criticized the Congress for allegedly extending loans to defaulting friends, with businessman Vijay Mallya being a notable example.
Movie Background:
- “Jawan,” directed by Atlee, delves into various societal issues, including corruption, government apathy, farmer suicides, healthcare crises, faulty army equipment, and hazardous factories near residential areas.
- The film features Shah Rukh Khan in multiple roles, including a soldier, a romantic hero, and a Robin Hood-esque figure who seeks to expose and confront a nexus involving politicians and businessmen.
- One of the film’s key scenes involves Shah Rukh Khan encouraging the general public to vote responsibly.
- The BJP’s reference to Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” as a means to critique the Congress’s governance and highlight their own achievements underscores the influence of popular culture in political discourse. The movie’s portrayal of social and political issues aligns with the BJP’s messaging regarding governance and policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
