Black Adam Review: DC fails to impress with a dull performance, Dwayne Johnson opens up about Superman’s cameo in the film. Details Inside

Black Adam Review

Black Adam Review: Dwayne Rock Johnson was always wanted to play the role of a superhero. Why would he not? He is one of the only movie stars who look like superhero. DC universe completed his wish of doing a role of superhero in the moves. It’s a wonder for people that it took him so long to done this spandex. The Rock plays antihero Black Adam in the latest film of DC cinematic universe.

The film starts with a lazy voiceover that tells us, 5000 years ago there existed the dominating, thriving kingdom of Kahndaq. An evil king decided to enslave Kahndaq’s people with his black magic. After years of depression, a hero finally arose from there to finish the evil king. An ancient order of wizards decides to grant powerful abilities to help and save the people. After the fight between king and that champion, the champion was disappeared and king lost his crown. It feels like a bedtime story.

The Rock’s performance is very dull

Cut to the present day and Kahndaq continues to live under the hostile rule of Intergang – an organization of foreign people. A group of brave freedom fighters (Sarah Shahi and Mohammed Amer) attempt to take a stand against these foreign people by setting out to find the magic crown to keep it safe. In the process of finding the magic crown they reawake the famed champion – Black Adam (The Rock).

The film squeals at us every six minutes. Black Adam isn’t a hero. He isn’t a villain. He’s shown as the uncontrollable energy who just wants to kill his enemies. He looks like the moody superman and The Rock was very dull and uninteresting to watch in this movie. He has done amazing performances in the films, Jumanji, Jungle Cruise and Red Notice. It’s the credit of director Jaume Collet-Serra who has managed to make an empty film. The film fails to mark a directorial stamp as he failed on capitalizing The Rock’s presence as a really angry, scary dude. It could snap you like a twig.

There are some moments where we see Adam tear through soldiers. He rips them and zaps them to hell. The soldiers run away from him to save their life and it feels like the scene from Man of Steel and Anthony Starr’s Homelander in The Boys. Black Adam is just showing up in this movie that he’s in the movie. The film also had the cameo of superman to make it more interesting for DC fans.

Dwayne Johnson opened up Superman’s cameo

Doctor Fate (Andrew Brosnan) does well in a very thin character. The makers have zero interest in his role as he looks like a useless hero of the film. The Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) feels like she is doing an “interpretive dance” and her entry shows like something hilarious is coming.  Some action scenes are only ‘attempt’ for doing good. So many scenes feels like copied from any other movies; you will find a very short innovation in this film. This movie has the pointless DC VFX super villains ever and the entire film feels like it was shot on the three sets again and again. Black Adam shows the very worst of storytelling as the film is a generic, bloated blur of VFX with a little sense of character, craft or creativity.

Dwayne Johnson opened up about having the cameo of Superman. He says, “I don’t know if there’s any other person on the planet who loves the mythology, everything of Superman. And I’m so happy that there is a new shift in this DC universe and Superman is back.”
