BLACKPINK Creates History: ‘Born Pink’ Album tops UK’s Official Album Chart

BLACKPINK Creates History: BLACKPINK won the top spot on the most recent UK official chart, which was announced on September 23rd, surpassing well-known performers like Suede and Rina Sawayama with their second full-length album, “BORN PINK.” With their 2020 release of their first full-length album, “The Album,” BLACKPINK previously held the second spot on this list.

On the same day, an article headline “BLACKPINK’s album created history by being the first K-pop girl group to top the charts” highlighted the albums that climbed to the top of the new chart. Besides the US Billboard chart, the official chart is regarded as one of the two most important in the pop music industry. BTS was the only Korean artist to top the UK official album chart. Psy led the official singles chart in 2012 with ‘Gangnam Style.’

On September 23rd, the title song ‘Shut Down’ from BLACKPINK’s ‘BORN PINK’ climbed the Spotify Weekly Top Song Chart, the world’s largest music platform. Over the last week, it landed at #1 with 39,186,127 streams.

There has never been a K-pop song that tops the weekly Spotify list. BLACKPINK’s previous highest rating was #2 for the pre-release single ‘Pink Venom’ from their second regular album. BLACKPINK wrote a new K-pop record after breaking their record. Furthermore, BLACKPINK demonstrated that it has gained great recognition in the major pop market by charting all eight tracks from the album.
