Despite facing various controversies and bans, the film has achieved remarkable success.

The movie is enjoying a successful run at the box office. However, the film’s release date and OTT platform have yet to be officially announced. It is confirmed, though, that ‘The Kerala Story’ will be released on an OTT platform in the coming months. There are rumors suggesting that the film might be released on the Zee5 OTT platform by the last week of June 2023.
200 crore club
‘The Kerala Story’ has achieved a significant milestone by entering the 200 crore club within 18 days of its release, despite facing early controversies. Although there was a slight decrease in its earnings on May 23, it is expected to continue performing well in the upcoming weeks. Initially, the West Bengal government had banned the film, but the ban has been lifted following a Supreme Court order. The ban was imposed due to concerns that the film’s release could disrupt communal harmony in the state.

The storyline of ‘The Kerala Story’ is claimed to be based on real events. It revolves around the brainwashing of girls in Kerala and their joining by the terrorist organization ISIS, which sent them to Syria. The narrative focuses on the experiences of three girls named Shalini, Geetanjali, and Nimah, showcasing how they were brainwashed, sexually assaulted, and subjected to various forms of torture in a nursing college.
Politics behind ‘The Kerala Story’
There is a political aspect associated with ‘The Kerala Story’ as well. The film is performing well at the box office and has been granted tax-free status in Madhya Pradesh. There is also a demand to make it tax-free in Maharashtra. While some political groups such as Congress and left-wing parties have criticized the film, labeling it as an attempt to defame the state and promote a BJP agenda, others argue that although it may not depict the story of 32,000 missing girls, it sheds light on the suffering of some girls that should be shown to the audience.
