And it’s not just Her friend, but even Nilu is harassed for covering her breast with an earthen pot. Later, Nilu comes out as a rebel and goes out to protest against this law, that is questioning her dignity and modesty.
What is breast tax?
Meanwhile the concept of breast tax was basically imposed on women belonging to Nadar, Ezhava and other lower caste communities by the Kingdom of Tranvancore, at present it is the State of Kerala. It was imposed on women who covered their breasts without paying a particular amount.
