Her journey began with a three-minute dance performance in the Telugu film “Bhoomi Kosam,” for which she earned a mere Rs 10. Despite this modest debut, her talent caught the eye of renowned filmmakers, leading to significant roles in quality productions. By 1976, Jaya Prada had ascended to stardom, becoming one of the highest-paid actresses in both Bollywood and the Telugu film industry.

Struggles Behind the Glamour

Despite her soaring success and accolades, Jaya Prada faced her share of hardships, especially on film sets. One such instance occurred during the filming of a song sequence for the D Ramanaidu production “Agni Poolu.” Recalling this challenging experience, Jaya Prada revealed the ordeal she endured during the shoot.

Standing on One Leg with High Fever

On one occasion, Jaya Prada arrived at rehearsals feeling unwell, battling a fever of 103 degrees. Despite her illness, she was only five minutes late, which led to a strict punishment from the choreographer. She was made to stand on one leg for thirty minutes as a consequence of her tardiness. Overwhelmed by sickness and humiliation, tears welled up in her eyes, yet she persevered.

Forced to Dance Like a Snake

The challenges didn’t end there. During the rehearsals for the song sequence, Jaya Prada was tasked with dancing like a snake, a demanding and physically strenuous feat. The constant movements took a toll on her body, resulting in rashes on her back and severe hair loss. Moreover, the discomfort was compounded by the need to eat like a snake to prevent vomiting during the shoot.

Despite the grueling conditions and physical strain, Jaya Prada’s dedication and perseverance paid off. The film, “Agni Poolu,” received widespread acclaim, with audiences praising her performance.
