Parineeti Chopra a National Award-winning actress, is no stranger to the harsh realities of Bollywood. Despite facing body shaming and delivering films that didn’t perform well, she has carved a niche for herself in the industry. The actress is thought to be worth approximately $8.9 million (almost Rs 74 crore), as per Lifestyle Asia. Despite the challenges, she has consistently featured on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2013.
From Investment Banker Dreams to Bollywood Stardom
Parineeti’s journey to acting wasn’t conventional. After completing her education in Manchester, where she even worked part-time for Manchester United, she returned to India and landed an internship at Yash Raj Films (YRF). Initially drawn to the world of finance, she aspired to be an investment banker. However, working on promotions for YRF’s film Band Baaja Baarat sparked a passion for acting, leading her to pursue acting school and eventually land her debut role.
Early Success and National Recognition
Parineeti’s debut in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl was moderately successful, but it was her second film, Ishaqzaade, that garnered critical acclaim. Her performance earned her a National Award-Special Mention, solidifying her place as a talented newcomer. Several commercially successful films followed, including Shudh Desi Romance and Hasee Toh Phasee, establishing her as a bankable actress.
Facing Setbacks and Battling Depression
However, the year 2014 marked a low point in Parineeti’s career. A string of flops coupled with personal heartbreak led her into a deep depression. She opened up about battling negative thoughts, social isolation, and a lack of motivation. This challenging phase lasted for a year and a half before she found strength in her brother and a close friend.
Overcoming Challenges and Embracing a New Phase
Parineeti’s determination to overcome setbacks is commendable. She focused on her fitness, signed promising projects like Golmaal Again and Meri Pyari Bindu, and even moved into a new house. Openly addressing the issue of body shaming, she revealed how she used it as motivation to get fitter.
Continuing Success and Upcoming Projects
Parineeti recently tied the knot with politician Raghav Chadha, marking a new phase in her life. On the professional front, she is set to star in Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming musical film “Amar Singh Chamkila” alongside Diljit Dosanjh. The trailer for the film has received positive feedback, generating anticipation among viewers. The movie is scheduled to release on Netflix on April 12, 2024, coinciding with Baisakhi.
