Archana Puran Singh, a name synonymous with laughter and wit, has carved a niche for herself in the Indian entertainment industry. But her journey to success wasn’t a bed of roses. Starting from a mere 10-second role in a film, Archana has come a long way, becoming a popular actress, a television anchor, and a celebrated judge on comedy reality shows.
From Modelling to Films
Born in a Punjabi family, Archana forayed into the world of glamour through modelling at the age of 20. Despite having no filmy connections, her talent and determination caught the eye of director B.R Chopra. She bagged a brief role in his 1982 film ‘Nikaah,’ which though short, got her noticed.
Finding her Feet in Bollywood
While her initial films like ‘Jalwa’ (1987) saw her playing the lead role opposite established actors like Naseeruddin Shah, commercial success continued to elude her. Archana then shifted gears and started appearing in supporting roles in popular movies like ‘Agneepath’ (1990), ‘Raja Hindustani’ (1996), and even shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in the iconic ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998).
Taking the Television World by Storm
Archana’s infectious laughter and charming personality found a perfect platform on television. She began her television career with shows like ‘Wah, Kya Scene Hai’ and ‘Uncensored’. Her acting prowess was further showcased in serials like ‘Shrimaan Shrimati’ and ‘Junoon’. But it was her stint as a host on shows like ‘Archana Talkies’ and the iconic horror show ‘Zee Horror Show’ that truly cemented her position as a television star.
Comedy Circus to The Kapil Sharma Show
Archana’s foray into the world of comedy shows proved to be a turning point. She became a judge on the popular show ‘Comedy Circus’ in 2007, judging several seasons of the show and winning hearts with her wit and camaraderie with the contestants. In 2019, she stepped into the shoes of Navjot Singh Sidhu as a judge on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, becoming an integral part of the show’s success.
The Rise to Prominence
According to Republic Bharat reports, Archana’s net worth stands at a staggering Rs 222 crore, with an impressive fee of Rs 10 lakh per episode for “The Kapil Sharma Show.” Notably, she negotiated a fee of Rs 8 crore for the third season of the show, underscoring her undeniable impact and value in the entertainment industry.
Marriage and Family
Archana’s personal life has also been an interesting journey. As per reports, she was married once before tying the knot with Parmeet Sethi. The couple’s four-year live-in relationship culminated in marriage in 1992. However, due to Parmeet’s family’s disapproval of Archana’s acting career, they had to keep their marriage a secret for another four years. Today, Archana and Parmeet are proud parents of two sons, Aryamann and Ayushmaan.
