Sai, who is well-known for having a strong personality both on and off television, has shared his challenges and victories while in the house, revealing a more vulnerable side.
Early Life and Struggles
In Lonavala, Maharashtra, Sai Ketan Rao was born into a middle-class family. Sai, whose mother is Telugu and his father is Maharashtrian, saw a significant change in his life when his father left the family. At the time, he was only five years old. Due to this abandonment, Sai took on the Rao last name of his mother.
Facing Harassment and Hardships
During an emotional discussion with fellow contestants Chandrika Dixit and Deepak Chaurasia, Sai disclosed that following his father’s departure, both his mother and he experienced discrimination from their family members. “After my dad left, mom faced harassment from her in-laws, as they used to question us a lot. But we grew out of it and fought back. My mom and I have gone through a lot together. During tough days, we even slept on railway tracks,” Sai shared, leaving his housemates emotional.
A Tough Journey to Stability
Sai’s mother worked several odd jobs to support her two children. “Mom used to work multiple jobs to make ends meet while raising two kids. Slowly we grew financially, but it was a tough ride,” Sai explained. Despite their hardships, Sai and his mother persevered.
Sai’s original ambition was to become a doctor. However, financial constraints made this dream unattainable. He switched to engineering, earning a B.Tech in Computer Science from the Hyderabad Institute of Technology and Management.
Pursuing an Acting Career
Despite his mother’s initial reservations about the instability of an acting career, Sai was determined. “My mom was initially against me acting as it is an unstable career. She wanted me to pursue an MBA and take a corporate job. It took me eight months to convince her, after which I went to film school in Hyderabad to kickstart my acting career,” Sai recalled.
