Cannes Film Festival 2024: With the goal of showcasing its extensive history in film and encouraging global cooperation, India has established a Pavilion at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which is taking place against the picturesque backdrop of the French Riviera. Jawed Ashraf, the ambassador to France and Monaco, and Sanjay Jaju, the information and broadcasting secretary for India, officially opened the pavilion on Wednesday.

“It’s such a momentous occasion of Indian cinema here. The festivals have helped me basically unlocking a career. And also one of my missions has been to, as a Canadian Indian to export the best of Indian storytelling and I’m not talking about from a film standpoint, I’m talking about from the stories, from people on the ground, from the amazing culture that we have to show the world. It’s a real honour to be a part of this inauguration,” said Filmmaker Richie Mehta at inaugural session of Bharat Pavilion.
Renaming to Bharat Pavilion
Explaining the reason behind the renaming of India Pavilion to Bharat Pavilion Sanjay Jaju, secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting, said, “It symbolises the country’s assertion of its traditional storytelling practices while it actively looks for collaborations with the rest of the world.” “India is the sutradhar (narrator) of the world. The large Indian presence in the festival is a recognition of that status,” the secretary added.

Ankush Bahuguna created history by being the first male Indian beauty influencer to walk the red carpet at Cannes in 2024. Wearing a multicolored embroidered jacket over a Torani purple kurta pantsuit, he proudly displayed his Indian heritage and culture.
